We recently spoke to Grey 2K, an organization that protects greyhounds and is attempting to end dog racing, improve and strengthen the laws which govern how dogs are treated, and end dog racing altogether. Greyhounds are beautiful animals and are often horribly mistreated when involved in racing programs. The organization has been very successful in ending dog racing in many states. They almost won in Massachusetts several years ago – a campaign that Marco Bitran was personally involved in. Greyhound racing often involves excess breeding, where unwanted dogs and discarded or put down. The animals live most of their life in crates being transported from race site to site, as reported by the Humane Society. Marco and others say that you can contribute to ending this suffering by supporting organizations like GREY 2K (see your local chapter), the MSPCA, and other such animal welfare organizations.
